Media Release - Homicide at Mesa Complex

Suspect Rene Nunez

On Friday, September 11, 2015, at approximately 9:00 pm, Mesa Police responded to a shooting in the area of Dobson and Rio Salado Parkway. A 29-year-old male victim was located inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Investigators immediately began working on information to identify and locate the individual/s involved.

Early morning on Saturday, September 12, a suspect was located and detained. The suspect, Rene Nunez, admitted to investigators his involvement in the shooting. The incident appears to be drug related. Release of the victim's identity is pending next of kin notification.

Nunez was arrested and booked for one count of Second Degree Murder, a class 2 Felony.
