24 Hour Exceptional Incident Report

On June 7, 2015 at 5:25 pm, Derek Washington was stopped for a civil traffic violation in the 00 block of South Date. Washington was drinking an alcoholic beverage and was on probation. He removed a hypodermic needle from his pocket and swung it at the officer, resisting arrest. Washington then pushed the officer and ran. After a foot pursuit, he still had the needle and was subdued with a Taser. Both Washington and the officer received minor injuries. Mesa Fire & Medical were called to treat Washington’s injuries. He was booked on several charges.
